According to Cartier, the new Santos Chronograph watch is expected to become available starting in April 2019. Cartier’s 2019 marketing push is mostly on female products, so this new men’s Santos Chronograph offering may be rather difficult to miss. The case has a most attractive mechanical feature, the pusher-operated chronograph. All models of the Santos Chronograph Collection feature Cartier QuickSwitch System, allowing easy switching between bands and bracelets without tools. As in the Santos, the Chronograph is considerably refined, with a dial, case, and bezel that have been all tuned. While the Santos 100 chronograph was powered by the ETA 7753, a variation on the 7750 with reversed
registers, the Chronograph is powered by an automatic movement, the 1904 CH MC, made by ValFleurier, the maker of the movements, which is Cartier’s sister company.

The Santos model, apart from being one of the most emblematic watches from Cartier, has been around for more than a hundred years, with the first one made for famed and pioneering aviator Alberto Santos Dumont, way back in 1904, becoming the world’s first wristwatch.

One of Cartier’s earliest great successes was the Cartier Santos watch — one of the first contemporary wristwatches in the world, made for men. In fact, this Cartier Santos 100 Chronograph XL plays up its muscles, offering a square case measuring 40x40mm.
