Cartier is a brand that was birthed over 100 years ago when Louis Cartier uncovered an infatuation with the measurement of time. From the onset, the brand has been driven by curiosity and innovation, and the watches have always starred bold and exquisite designs that require intricate movements.
The Cartier Santos Dumont, a pioneering wristwatch was first designed in 1904 and was debuted as one of the first modern watches for men. It was invented specifically to be worn on the wrist, not a converted pocket watch like some of its contemporaries.

About Cartier Santos-Dumont
Cartier Santos-Dumont is the initial Santos watch that was designed by Louis Cartier for Brazilian pilot Alberto-Santos Dumont in 1904. The Brazilian pilot requested a timepiece that he could use to monitor flight time without having to forsake the plane gears, and the Santos-Dumont was designed for him.
The actual Santos-Dumont watch had a squarish case with angular lugs, a square dial, and long, thin Roman numerals. The case also measured around 24.8 x 34.8 mm. In 1911, Cartier started delivering the Santos-Dumont watch to the public and those models were solely made in platinum or yellow gold. They were also available with leather straps and a gold folding buckle.
However, in 2019, the Cartier Santos-Dumont was renewed with a contemporary size. It was also furnished with a quartz movement, it is therefore now known as the Santos collection’s entry-level model. And in 2020, Cartier followed up with mechanical versions of the Santos-Dumont.
