These watches are true to the spirit of both companies, and they took watchmaking to impossible heights. In 2020, the partnership produced the Jacob & Co. Twin Turbo Furious. And, after a year, it designed the Jacob & Co. Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon collection.

The Bugatti Chiron Tourbillion Rose Gold By Jacob & Co. became the world’s first timepiece with an actual replica of an engine on the wrist. The timepiece did what no one has ever even attempted before which is to seamlessly marry engines and watches. The Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon manufactured by Jacob & Co. is a world-first, it is a true engine on the wrist. This watch is priced at $380,000.
The Bugatti Chiron
Before we unveil how this timepiece was crafted, it is important to know the significance of the Chiron. Chiron is a hypercar manufactured by the French automobile manufacturer, Bugatti. It is a mechanical wonder with a 16-cylinder W-12 engine. Generating a power of 1,500 hp, the engine pumps 60,000 litres of air every minute through 4 turbochargers which are positioned inside the engine complex. This is what makes the Chiron recognized as the fastest and most complicated Bugatti ever produced.
The Crafting Of Bugatti Chiron Tourbillion Rose Gold By Jacob & Co
Engine Animation
When you push the right-hand crown of the timepiece, the engine comes to life, the crankshaft turns and the 16 pistons pump up and down, like a true internal combustion engine. Two “turbochargers” on the side of the engine block spins, while the engine runs, and adds to the visual impact. The movement is made of 578 components.
Tourbillon
The Bugatti Chiron Tourbillion Rose Gold features a 30º inclined tourbillon, it is the first time for Jacob & Co. to ever use an inclined tourbillon. The “flying” part of the tourbillon implies that the regulating organ is only supported on one side, which makes the tourbillon even more mesmerizing. The 30º inclination also makes it easier to adore this incredible complication.
Movement Suspension
The Bugatti Chiron Tourbillion Rose Gold movement is fully suspended in four places, with what looks like an actual automobile shock from the Chiron. The movement floats inside the case, you can see it moving up and down. Two exhausts frame the engine block which completes the engine theme of the design.
Power Reserve
The power reserves for the animation of the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillion, and the power reserve for timekeeping are different, but, they are wound through the winding crown, clockwise for the movement, and counterclockwise for the engine animation. The power reserve indication for timekeeping also has the universal gas pump symbol on the side of the gauge at nine o’clock.
Crowns
The crowns of the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillion are at the bottom of the case. It features the left crown that sets the time, while the middle crown winds both the movement (60 hours of power reserve) and the animation, and a slight push of the right-hand crown starts the animation.
The suspension of the movement caused an additional setback for the movement designers, as they had to create and patent a special automotive-style jointed transverse system so the crown posts don’t get damaged by the movement which goes up and down inside the case.
